The Shopping List is where you can make a note of the things you need or want to purchase - seeds, hardware, etc. The intention is for it to act as a paper and pencil jotting list, so no retailers are included. The shopping list can be used easily when recording a purchase.
Two types of entry can be made: an actual product or a ‘free hand’ description.
-
Shopping List
This is the list of entries which make up the shopping list. Unlike other catalogues you can make entries directly in this list or drag and drop a known product onto the list. You can also change a current entry by changing the various product columns. Note that this will create a new product (or find an existing product) and not corrupt the current product.
-
Type column
This is the product category for a specific product you want to add. You can make an entry here by clicking and selecting from the drop down list.
-
Name column
Choose the name of an existing product of the chosen type, or type in a new value. Note that this can create a lot of ‘phantom’ products (just category and name without the detail). If the product type is ‘plant like’ the drop down will be a list of plant species.
-
Detail column
Choose the ‘detail’ of an existing product of the chosen type and name, or type in a new value. If the product type is ‘plant like’ the drop down will be a list of plant varieties. This value is optional (so you might just note down ‘seed’ ‘cucumber’ and wait for a seed catalogue to drop through the letter box!)
-
Brand column
Choose the brand of an existing product of the chosen type, or type in a new value. This is optional.
-
Free hand column
You can use this field instead of the product columns to make a free hand note of something you need but can't be sure of the details. You cannot mix-and-match with the product entries.
-
Drag and Drop
The easiest way to add a product to the shopping list is to drag an entry from the product List and drop it on the shopping list area. If the exact product isn't there, it's sometimes easier to use something close then change a value. No check is made for duplicate entries.
-
Context menu
The usual Add, Change, Delete options are here for the shopping list entries. Add and Change will bring up a Shopping List entry editor. It's much easier to just change the entry in situ.

-
Product List
This is a list of known products shown as a ‘tree’, grouped by product category. You can change descriptions and comments here but not the other values. The purpose of this list is so that you can drag and drop a product onto the shopping list area.
-
Name column
The product type (category) or name.
-
Detail column
The detail name of the product.
-
Brand column
The brand of the product.
-
Drag and Drop
You can drag a product entry (not a category entry) from here to the shopping list area to add it to the list.
-
Context menu
The only option here is ‘add entry to shopping list’.
-
-
Add button
Bring up an editor to add a new shopping list entry. It's usually much easier to edit the list directly. The functionality is exactly the same as using the context menu on the shopping list.
-
Change button
Bring up an editor to change a shopping list entry. It's usually much easier to edit the list directly. The functionality is exactly the same as using the context menu on the shopping list.
-
Delete button
Delete the current entry from the shopping list. You will be asked to confirm the deletion. Deletion is immediate; there is no ‘undo’ option. If this was a product entry, the product is not deleted. The functionality is exactly the same as using the context menu on the shopping list.
