The whole point of gardening is to grow plants. The Plant Catalogue is where the Garden Notebook application holds a list of the plants you grow.

  1. The list

This is a list of plants by species and variety (or cultivar). The varieties can be shown by clicking the drop-down next to the species' name.

You can directly edit the common names of species and varieties by clicking on the name field. Equally, you can edit the latin name and description by clicking on the appropriate fields.

You can also add comments by clicking on the Comments field.

  2. Add button

This allows you to add a species or variety. Most of the time you won't need to do this as plants will be added automatically when you create diary entries. It is a drop-down with two options.

    1. Species

This will bring up the Plant Species editor.

    2. Variety

This option is only available if you have selected a row in the list; the parent species will be set as the species selected, or the parent species of the variety selected.

  3. Change button

This is only available if you have an item in the list selected. It will bring up the Plant Species or Plant Variety editor depending on what you have selected.

  4. Delete button

This is only available if you have an item in the list selected and that item is not used in any diary entry. You will be asked to confirm the deletion. Once done, the deletion cannot be undone.

  5. Context Menu

You access the context menu on an item in the list by clicking the right-hand mouse button; the options available are exactly the same as those the Add, Change and Delete buttons provide.
